About the Event

What cultural differences have you noticed between American culture and your home culture? What surprised you about living in the US? What aspects of American culture do you enjoy? Join AMIS for an interactive panel discussion on “Communicating Across Cultures" and explore the differences and similarities between American and global cultures and receive tips for thriving in a cross-cultural environment. This event is part of GSU's International Spring Festival, but ALL international students are welcome to attend.

About the Panelists:

Susie Davidson is a retired American who has enjoyed traveling the world for the past 30 years, sampling the cultures of 37 countries on six continents. She studied in France and enjoys learning languages. Susie was a consultant to large corporations for 18 years and spent the final 15 years of her career as an independent trainer and executive coach, working with international business people on intercultural issues, leadership, communication skills and customer service. Susie has a passion for having long conversations with international students to share stories, customs, and experiences while helping them to understand and enjoy American traditions, current events, foods and holidays.

Nadeen Green has been an AMIS volunteer for decades and cherishes prior and current friendships with many international students.  She often reminds us, “A stranger is a friend you haven’t met yet.”

Christina Porter has been connected with internationals most of her life. Her mother is a naturalized American citizen, so Christina has firsthand experience of growing up in an inter-cultural family. She has had the joy of traveling extensively throughout western Europe, the Caribbean and Central America. In addition, Christina and her husband have opened their home to hosting international students from around the world for over 25 years.  Christina loves learning about other cultures but even more than that, she enjoys sharing and explaining cultural differences with others.

All International students and American friends are welcome!  Invite a friend! By participating in this event, you agree to abide by our Photo Release Policy and Assumption of Risks Policies. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
